Student Success Center

Welcome to the Student Success Center!  The center is designed to provide students a path of academic success to graduation.  The services offered include assistance in the Writing Center, Digital Media Center, Information Technologies, and English as a Second Language, and tips to be successful in the classroom from academic and peer advisors.  

The Center is anticipated to open on August 22, 2011 (start of classes, Fall 2011)as follows:
   Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
   Friday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
   Saturday/Sunday: TBD

The center is located on the first floor of the Library in room KA-128.  The Student Success Center will be staffed by the following areas:

• Writing Center - The Writing Center offers free tutoring in both writing and Spanish. Writing tutors can address all aspects of writing from generating ideas to citing sources, and Spanish tutors work closely with professors to enhance classroom instruction. The Center offers students access to both office supplies and resources, including documentation style manuals.  Students may simply stop by for assistance or call ahead (765-455-9425) to schedule a thirty minute appontment.      Writing Center tutors are available:
        Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
        Friday 10:00 pm to 2:00 pm
        Saturday 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

• Information Technology (IT) Training - IT Training removes technology roadblocks to enable student success!  IT Trainers (Microsoft Certified) provide one-on-one personalized tutoring to students and also offer instructor-led workshops on the computer applications (Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Suite) and specific tasks that students need when creating assignments for classes (Podcasts and vodcasts, large format posters, using Microsoft Word for writing research papers, multimedia PowerPoint presentations, and more!)       IT Tutoring by appointment - Call the IT Training Manager directly at (765) 455-9589 to make an appointment with an IT Tutor.  One-hour sessions (appointments) can be scheduled during:
         Monday through Thursday: 8:00 am to 9:00 pm
         Friday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
         Saturday: 12 Noon to 5:00 pm
         Sunday: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  
      One-on-one "instant" IT Tutoring in the Student Success Center (Writing Center Tutor will contact IT Trainer as need arises):
         Any time Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
         ... IT Trainer will arrive to assist ASAP!

• Digital Media Center - The Digital Media Center is a multimedia production facility that allows the creativity of its users to take form.  The Center serves the students, faculty, and staff of Indiana University Kokomo. Users can create graphics, work on Web projects, create or edit videos, record audio, and author CDs or DVDs. The Digital Media Center offers six Mac multimedia stations and two production rooms.  The Digital Media Center is located in room KA-120 in the Library (1st floor.  Click [here] to go to the Digital Media Center Web page.

• English as a Second Language (ESL) Services - ESL Services help international students adapt to study in the U.S. by providing academic assessments, tutoring, and writing seminars that target the special needs of international students.  All ESL services are provided by a certified ESL tutor and certified English tutor.
  
  
     Appointments can be made during the following time slots:
        Monday/Wednesday:  11:30 am -12:30 pm and  2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
        Tuesday/Thursday:   3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
     Appointments can also be made at other times by contacting the Writing Center.

• Advisors for Academic Success - Academic Advisors will be assisting students with study skills.  Ask yourself the following questions...
  
     Do you need to get orgnized?
     Do you have problems taking tests?
     Do you experience test anxiety
     Do you need assistance taking notes?
     Do you need to become more motivated?
     Are you having personal issues that are preventing you from being successful in the classroom?
  
  If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, or have questions or concerns related to student success, please call the Student Success Center at (765) 455-9425 and schedule an appointment during the Academic Tips/Course Survival times.  You will be scheduled to meet with an Academic Advisor and/or a peer advisor.
