International Travel Courses

Students explore Guatemalan culture in class on campus throughout the Spring semester and raise money and collect resources for various social organizations in Guatemala which they distribute while in the country. Students fly to Guatemala for one week over Spring Break. Students discuss Guatemalan history, politics, economics, current events, communication styles, language and culture. Of particular interest to healthcare workers, students also learn about the Guatemalan healthcare system and compare it to healthcare in the United States. This course is also available for graduate credit for nursing students. Approximately 8 to 10 students travel in this program each year.


  • HSS-F 200 Hispanic Culture and Healthcare (3 cr.)
  • NURS-J 595 Nursing Administrative Elective (3 cr.)

Dates of Travel: Spring Break - We travel over spring break, leaving on Friday, March 9th and returning home on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

Cost: Approximately $1,600: This includes airfare, all ground transport in Guatemala, hotels, meals and all activities.
