Women of the Well House awards nearly $14,000 in grants
Indiana University Kokomo’s women’s giving circle awarded nearly $14,000 during its first grant cycle, which will provide funding for eight campus programs led by students, faculty, and staff. The Women of the Well House voted on the projects that provide travel and externship opportunities, and CPR and mental health first aid training for students, and help students serve as mentors and teachers in north central Indiana.
Senior receives prestigious alumni scholarship
An Indiana University Kokomo student leader represented an elite group of IU seniors, as one of 30 recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award (DASA) grants. Bailey Troutman, from Lapel, spoke on behalf of all of the student award winners, during a reception honoring them in Bloomington. She and the other honorees each received a $2,500 scholarship for the spring 2018 semester. For Troutman, the scholarship made her feel like part of the overall IU family.
Incoming students honored with scholarships
Indiana University Kokomo honored nearly 60 incoming students with more than $550,000 in awards at its annual Scholarship Reception. “We’re proud of each of these students’ accomplishments, and are thrilled they have chosen IU Kokomo for the next step in their academic journey,” said Angela Siders, director of admissions. “It was great to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of several of our incoming freshmen.”
Local businessman donates $10,000 to baseball program
To say that Brent Owens is a passionate baseball fan might be an understatement. His business, cfd Investments, reflects his love of the sport, with décor including an American flag created from painted baseballs, photos autographed by players, and other memorabilia proudly displayed. As a former college and semi-pro player, current high school coach, and a business owner committed to contributing to his community, it was a natural fit for him to be among the first supporters of Indiana University Kokomo’s baseball program.
