Nursing
It is a great time to become a nurse. The healthcare field is growing and changing rapidly, providing opportunities for exciting careers. If you’re looking for a quality education rich in hands-on experiences in nursing, led by a faculty dedicated to preparing competent, compassionate and excellent nurses, then Indiana University Kokomo is for you.
At IU Kokomo, both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing are offered. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program combines a strong background in the sciences and liberal arts with top-notch education in the profession of nursing and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (R.N. to B.S.N); a transition program building on the experience and education of those already R.N's. This Program offers (2) convenient formats: traditional classroom and on-line.
The Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program offers two separate tracks – nurse administrator and nurse educator. The nurse administrator track will prepare graduates to advanced-level management positions at hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, extended care facilities, and nurse-managed health centers. Graduates of the nurse educator track will be positioned to successfully pass the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Certification Exam which, together with appropriate work experience, qualifies one to become a CNE through the National League for Nursing (NLN).
New to the program in 2011 is the recently constructed St. Joseph Clinical Simulation Center, made possible by St. Joseph Hospital and St. Vincent Health. At the center, students will gain hands-on experience and learn skills with use of human simulators. While human simulators cannot replace the learning experience gained through direct patient care, students are challenged and are able to develop their skills in a setting that allows mistakes which they can learn from, but do not place a patient at risk.
The baccalaureate program at Indiana University Kokomo is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NE, Suite 530, Washington DC 20036, (202) 887-6791.
